Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy is a non-labeling, non-normative approach to working with people. Instead of looking exclusively at the problems and troubles in our lives, narrative therapy helps us find the stories of strength and empowerment that often lie hidden in the stories we tell ourselves and let others tell us. Narrative therapy is also a collaborative model -you are the expert on your own life. My job as a counselor is to help open up new possibilities that may have become muddled in the difficulties of living in this modern world. Lastly, narrative therapy is clear in keeping the focus on the fact that the person is not the problem: the problem is the problem. By helping you step back and see when, where and how the problem entered your life, we can find ways to remove it by looking at what kinds of things you may be doing to maintain the problem.
