Dying Daily #220: Silence

I am always working on talking less.

This is difficult since my job involves talking with other people and I enjoy the sound of my own voice.

I often find that not saying anything at all is most useful though.

Here are some quotes about it I keep on my phone.

“Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.”

Plato

“It has been said that it’s the space between the bars that holds the tiger. And it’s the silence between the notes that makes the music. It is out of the silence, or “the gap,” or that space between our thoughts, that everything is created-including our own bliss.”

Wayne Dyer

“God’s one and only voice is Silence.”

Herman Melville

“Much talking is the cause of danger. Silence is the means of avoiding misfortune. The talkative parrot is shut up in a cage. Other birds, without speech, fly freely about.”

Saskya Pandita

Silence is a true friend who never betrays.”

Confucius

“I don’t think that the spoken words solve everything. Sometimes silence delivers truer feelings while the words can distort the meaning in some situations.”

Kim Ki-duk

“Silence at the proper season is wisdom, and better than any speech.”

Plutarch

Have a great day.
